Guy Faked Having Cancer To Raise Money To Play In The World Series Of Poker
Desperate people sometimes do desperate things, but it takes a special kind of scumbag to fake a terminal illness…and then use that money for a spot at the World Series of Poker.
According to reports, Rob Mercer has admitted that he created GoFundMe to raise money for the WSOP by telling people he had Stage 4 Colon Cancer…and that it was all a lie. Mercer now owns up to the fact that he was “wrong” and he shouldn’t have done it.
Mercer not only raised enough for the $10K buy-in through his BS cancer crowdfunding scheme, but he also took in single donations of $30K, $50K, a suite at the Bellagio, and even a $2,500 from a fellow poker player who’s currently suffering from “a chronic illness.”
Though he claims to feel bad about his lie, he doesn’t feel bad enough to return any of the money…because he “believes he has undiagnosed breast cancer.”
