Soccer Star Quincy Promes Reportedly Arrested In Dubai For Cocaine Smuggling
Being a celebrity or athlete can have some advantages the rest of us don’t or can’t enjoy. Their wealth can take them places we can’t afford, and can sometimes get them out of situations we wouldn’t be able to get out of. However, that doesn’t happen every time. There are limits to what they can get away with. A soccer star has reportedly been arrested in Dubai for cocaine smuggling!
Well, looks like that’s something that even a VIP status can’t help. Dutch soccer star Quincy Promes could be in a lot of trouble!
Soccer Star Reportedly Arrested In Dubai For Cocaine Smuggling
According to AP News, Quincy Promes was convicted in absentia last month by an Amsterdam court for his involvement in cocaine smuggling and was sentenced to six years in prison. Now, the soccer star has reportedly been arrested by law enforcement in Dubai at the request of Dutch prosecutors who are seeking his extradition.
While the prosecutors did not mention Promes directly by name, they did say in a statement that a 32-year-old man who lives in Moscow was arrested in Dubai. Quincy is 32, lives in Moscow, and plays for Spartak Moscow, per AP News.
AP News reports the prosecutors said, “The arrested man was reportedly staying in luxury in Dubai according to various media reports. However, he has been taken into custody thanks to the efforts of the authorities in both countries. At this time, it is not possible to provide additional information to avoid disruption of the ongoing investigation.”
Okay, this doesn’t sound good at all! Dubai is probably among the five places I would never want to be arrested. Singapore probably takes the gold medal in that contest.
Quincy Promes Reportedly Arrested For Drug Smuggling
CNN reports he was central to a drug trafficking operation in which roughly 1,360 kilograms of cocaine was smuggled from Brazil to the Netherlands in 2020. This reads like a story we’ve seen lately here in the States within the NBA. Ja Morant has been in trouble lately for gun stuff, and many critics say he’s trying to live a life like a rapper or someone who he’s not. They say he’s throwing it all away for social media clout. This sounds like a similar thing to me.
Additionally, this isn’t the first time Promes has been in trouble with the law. Last year, he was found guilty of stabbing his cousin in the leg and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Police only learned about that incident because they were tapping his phone as a part of the investigation into drug smuggling, per AP News.
