Florida Man Finds Rare Ancient Fossil At The Beach
A Florida Man found a rare ancient fossil at the beach! He’s been hunting for fossils for decades, and it’s all worth it now.
I can’t wait until the day Chuck The Freak discovers something amazing and life-changing during his metal detecting trips. It happened on a trip to Venice Beach, Florida! Check out how it all played out below!
Florida Man Finds Ancient Fossil At The Beach
According to Click Orlando, Alex Lundberg is a fossil hunter who recently made the unique discovery. Reports say he spotted something that looked like a piece of wood stuck in the sand in the water. That’s when he dove down 25 feet and started dusting it off. Lundberg tells Click Orlando, “I kind of recognize it as it’s probably mammoth ivory or mastodon tusk.”
Shortly after, the marine biologist was able to remove the object from the sand and found it was a 4-foot-long, 70-pound mastodon tusk like he thought! Mastodons walked the Earth about 23 million years ago and went extinct roughly 10,000 years ago, per Click Orlando.
Lundberg tells Click Orlando, “It was absolutely surreal. I have been fossil hunting for 20 years and I never thought I would find something like this. We find broken pieces of tusk all the time down there, just small pieces, but usually, they don’t stay intact like this they fall apart or storms break them up. I mean the fact that this one stayed in one piece is so surreal and so exciting.”
Now, Lundgren tells Click Orlando he’s going to hang onto the fossil and pass it down to his grandkids one day. Although first the finding has to be reported to the state of Florida. This has to be a dream come true for him. When you spend 20 years looking for fossils and finally make a discovery like this it has to be so rewarding. One day, we’re going to get a text from Chuck that he found Jimmy Hoffa and we’ll know exactly how this guy felt when he made this incredible discovery!
