How Did A Canadian Candidate Make History During An Election?
A Canadian Candidate made history during a recent election! However, it’s not the type of history you want to make!
Typically, making history sounds like a good thing. You stand alone among the people. However, this is not a title you want to hold. It’s definitely not something you’d typically brag about. That’s not stopping this guy from taking some pride in the accomplishment.
How Did A Canadian Candidate Make History?
How did a Canadian Candidate make history during the election? According to The Guardian, he received zero votes in a contested federal election after running as part of a protest over the country’s lack of electoral reforms. Well, if protesting was part of the goal then I’d say they did a great job and accomplished what they set out to do! The story is now going viral world wide bringing a lot of attention to the issue.
However, the Canadian Candidate, identified as Félix-Antoine Hamel told CBC News via The Guardian, “When I saw the result, I was like: ‘Well, I am the true unity candidate. Everyone agrees not to vote for me.” That’s a great perspective on the matter! He’s making a good point! Finally, politics has their great unifier. He’s the person we’ve all been waiting for.
The Guardian reports Hamel was among 84 people listed as a candidate in the recent by-election held in Toronto, Canada. The whole protest started after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised that if his part won power the 2015 federal election would be the last under the first-past-the-post system. However, after his party won in a landslide majority he abandoned his promise. Appears that politicians in Canada aren’t very different from what we’re presented with here in the United States. You can make all the promises you want, but if it’s going to affect your chances of winning it’s not going to happen!
Bummer that he received zero votes, but at least he has a great story to tell for the rest of his life. He will always be the great unifier who brought the people together! See more about the Montreal musician from CBC News on YouTube below!
