Scientists Create Way To Grow Male Genitals In A Lab
Scientists have created a way to grow male genitals in a lab. However, there’s still no cure for cancer. Is this where our priorities are?
We’re still waiting on flying cars, cold fusion, and a cure for cancer and other deadly diseases. However, we now have a way to grow male genitals thanks to science. It’s an impressive development in the world of science, but will it actually work?
Scientists Create Way To Grow Male Genitals In A Lab
At first, it reminds me of the South Park episode where Mr. Garrison has scientist grow him a new penis in a lab and they use mice to make it happen. Well, it turns out The Simpsons isn’t the only animated show that can predict the future. It looks like South Park can do it, too! That’s pretty much exactly how it’s playing out in real life!
According to Daily Star, Dr. Nitzan Gonen, a scientist in Israel, has produced male genitals from cells extracted from mice. Now, she’s hoping to produce human versions within the next 5 years that could produce sperm. Daily Star says Dr. Gonen used mice to produce a testicle organoid which is a microscopic version of an organ. After adding hormones and growth medium to replicate the enviornment of testicles, they achieved the results they were hoping for. Now, her vision is to grow testes organoids from biopsies of children with cancer and then hopefully grow fertile sperm in vitro, per Daily Star.
However, many people online are accusing her of trying to get rid of men. That is not the case. Instead, Dr. Gonen tells Daily Star that her work will hopefully help men who can’t produce sperm and can’t father a child instead of the current ways that are being used to make babies without a male. Christopher Barratt, a professor of reproductive medicine at Dundee University says that “Male fertility is in crisis, and unless we do something about it the human race is going to be in a total mess,” per Daily Star. That’s an intense quote! Let Dr. Gonen keep doing her things! We don’t want the human race to be in trouble!
Her vision could be incredibly helpful worldwide if she’s able to pull it off. Daily Star reports that studies show that sperm concentration has been falling by an alarming rate each year. Dr. Barratt tells Daily Star, “Male fertility is totally underappreciated and under-researched, and there is a genuine cause for concern.”
