Illinois Grandma Dies After Getting Trapped In A Sleep Number Bed For 2 Days

An Illinois grandma has reportedly died after getting trapped in a sleep number bed for 2 days! That is not what they mean by "death bed."

Reports say that the Sleep Number bed lowered itself without warning which ended up pinning the 80-year-old grandma, Rosalind "Roz" Walker, against her wall where she wasn't freed until roughly 2 days later. Emergency crews eventually came and rushed her to a nearby hospital. She was reportedly treated for injuries and transferred to a rehabilitation clinic before being put on hospice in her own home. Weeks later, she ended up dying, according to The New York Post. Now, a lawsuit has been started by her daughter blaming the Sleep Number bed for her death.

The New York Post reports that the lawsuit alleges Sleep Number and the bed's manufacturer, Leggett & Platt, Inc., "did not have adequate instructions or cautionary language in the instructions or on the bed, alerting Mrs. Walker not to go between the bed and the wall as she could be trapped." Additionally, the bed didn't have a release mechanism that would allow her to free herself. It sounds like that might have been useful in this situation. A spokesperson for Sleep Number says the company is aware of the lawsuit and is in the process of reviewing the allegations against them.

The spokesperson tells The New York Post, "The suit alleges that a malfunctioning adjustable base purchased in 2014 was a contributing factor in the death of Rosalind Walker. We understand that this incident is alleged to have occurred in March 2023, we were notified of the alleged incident after the lawsuit was filed yesterday, December 10. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Walker for their tragic loss."

That would not be ideal! Your bed is supposed to be a place of relaxation and comfort--it's not supposed to be responsible for (allegedly) killing you. You don't want your bed to do that or leave you pressed up against a wall for 48 hours. That's the thing with these fancy beds! Yes, they can do all sorts of fancy things now like cool one side and heat another, raise and lower, and more. However, all I want from my bed is comfort and for it not to kill me.
