Are you looking for some Christmas movies to watch that aren't considered classics? Don't worry, we have your back.

Having a tradition of watching the same Christmas movies every December makes sense and it's good to have traditions. However, after you've watched all of your go-to holiday movies you might be stuck without anything to watch. Let's be honest, as great as Elf is you can't watch it every day in December. While the original Santa Clause movie is certainly a favorite of mine, I can admit there's a steep and noticeable decline with the two sequel movies. So, maybe you're looking for some Christmas movies to watch that aren't as popular. I have watched many and have been left impressed and disappointed. I'll try to share some of my lowkey favorites with you, some you might agree with and others you might have tried and hated--it happens.

Sometimes, you might see a movie receive a poor score on Rotten Tomatoes and avoid it--but there are some enjoyable movies out there with poor scores. Just because critics don't like a movie doesn't mean you won't have a good time watching it. In fact, sometimes a movie can be so bad it ends up being good to watch. I'm sure you've experienced that before. Plus, with holiday movies aren't they supposed to be a little cheesy? Don't take your Christmas movies too seriously.

This year, Jack Black starred in Dear Santa which only received a score of 24% on Rotten Tomatoes but I liked it! I love Jack Black and he did a good job in this movie. However, the best part of the movie was a surprise cameo by another A-List funny man which I won't spoil here. I will say that it could be the best cameo in a movie since Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers. Rarely does a small side character have that much of an impact on a movie, but he steals the show with his single scene. It's fantastic and if you're looking for something to watch why not try Dear Santa?

I'm surprised The Christmas Chronicles didn't take off more than it did. Kurt Russell plays a great Santa, the movie is entertaining, and emotionally heavy. I thought the entire cast was great and it was an excellent movie. It should be a classic but it's not. I'll also go on record to say I loved the sequel to A Christmas Story. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did but if you enjoy the original then you'll get a kick out of the second movie. It's very nostalgic and hits all the right notes. Looking for a Christmas movie with a horror vibe? Krampus would make for a good watch. Sometimes, the feel-good spirit of the holidays gets overwhelming and a nice scary Christmas movie might be what you're after and this is a good one. A fifth recommendation of a Christmas movie that's great but isn't considered a classic would have to be Office Christmas Party. It's always worth a laugh and has a great cast including Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, TJ Miller, Olivia Munn, and some familiar SNL stars.

‘Die Hard’ And 5 Other Debatable Christmas Movies

'Tis the season for Christmas movies, but what makes a Christmas movie a "Christmas movie?" Does it have to take place on Christmas? Must Christmas be the primary theme? Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

It's a question that seems to be as old as the holiday itself. Everyone has an opinion, and we could be closer to an answer than ever before.

In determining what makes a Christmas movie a "Christmas movie," Yahoo! UK came up with a two-question litmus test. To try to determine if a movie is indeed a Christmas movie, they say you have to first ask "does watching the film at any other time of year feel weird? If no, then it's not a Christmas movie."

Then, they suggest you ask, "if you take Christmas out of the movie, does it still make sense? If yes, then it's not a Christmas movie."

Die Hard & Other Debatable Christmas Movies

I think those are fair criteria. It's not a Christmas movie if you can watch it during the summer and have no issue. If it has the same feel in August as it does on Christmas, it shouldn't be a Christmas movie.

Likewise, I feel like Christmas has to be the primary theme of the movie. If you can remove Christmas from the plot and it still makes sense it shouldn't be considered a Christmas movie.

So, given these characteristics I feel like Die Hard would not be considered a Christmas movie. Despite the movie taking place on Christmas, you can watch the movie all year long. It doesn't have to be exclusively tied to Christmas. To me, it doesn't pass the litmus test.

In a new poll, 26% of people said that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. 50% of people surveyed said it is not. Then, 23% say they "aren't sure."

Die Hard isn't the only movie that we question if it's a Christmas movie or not. Some of the best movies of all-time could fall into this vague area. Here are five other movies that are debatable Christmas movies, just like Die Hard.

Mean Girls

You can't think about Mean Girls without thinking of the Jingle Bell Rock performance. They're all in their Santa outfits. However, Christmas isn't a big enough theme in the movie.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter works great year round. It's a Christmas movie, it's a Halloween movie, due to all the feasts it's even a Thanksgiving movie. However, because of all these factors I don't think it's really a Christmas movie. Still great, though.

Catch Me If You Can

A lot of the movie happens on Christmas Eve. It's a big part of the movie. However, no way can we consider it a Christmas movie.

Gremlins

It was originally marketed as a Christmas movie for kids. However, because it's so different from the others it's hard to call it a Christmas movie. Does it pass the test in your opinion?

Batman Returns

Pretty much the entire movie takes place during the Christmas season. It's tied very closely to Christmas. It could actually be a Christmas movie, if you think about it.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
