Did a Florida man shoot his boyfriend after being spanked too hard? That's what it sounds like!

It all happened at the man's home in Fort Pierce, Florida.

According to The Smoking Gun, 61-year-old James Newland and his 33-year-old boyfriend were getting sexually intimate when things got a little too hot and heavy. The younger man says that he was told by Newland that he liked it rough so he smacked his butt hard enough to leave a handprint. However, Newland reportedly told him to stop and that he was hurt leaving the boyfriend apologizing, putting his pants back on, and going back into the living room, per The Smoking Gun.

However, that's when the problems really started it sounds like. The Smoking Gun says that's when Newland reportedly grabbed a revolver from a nearby side table and started pointing it at the victim saying, "You want to try me?" Clearly, he did not appreciate the hard spankings. As the victim was trying to leave the residence, police say Newland fired one shot into his front porch's pavement. Newland later admitted to police that he fired a shot but maintained that he would never hurt anyone and was just trying to scare his boyfriend who he alleges was hitting him with a gas can, per The Smoking Gun.

When law enforcement arrived on scene they said Newland smelled of booze and had slurred speech. He gave officers permission to search his home and police ended up finding around 9 firearms and ammunition inside the residence. The Smoking Gun says 2 more guns were taken from his car. Newland was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony, and then also was charged with 2 misdemeanor gun counts. He was released from county jail on New Year's Eve after posting bond. He's not allowed to have contact with the victim.
