If you follow sports, you heard about the massive contract Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets. It was the talk of the offseason. Well, one of his teammates has landed himself a car out of the trade. He gave up his number 22 for the season and Soto paid him well.
According to WeBelievePod on X, When Juan Soto made the jump from the New York Yankees to the New York Mets, he had one small problem. His #22 was already adorning the jersey of Brett Baty. Baty was willing to give up his jersey number to help welcome Soto to the team, and that generosity was rewarded. Yesterday morning, Soto gifted Baty with a brand new SUV, that it stands to reason is likely fully loaded, trimmed, and decked out. Turning over the number to Soto was probably a no-brainer since Mets’ ownership would’ve probably not taken too kindly to having their $765 million man snubbed over something so petty.
Some of these sports athletes have been with their numbers for their whole lives. They started as a youth wearing a certain number and then carry it with them throughout their journey. When a big name player makes a move to you team, I'm sure it's hard for the ego of some professional players to give up their numbers. Because obviously, there are so many numbers. Getting yourself a car out of the deal makes it sweeter for sure.
The amount of money we are talking here is just insane. The average person can't imagine over $700 million dollars in a lifetime. Juan Soto scored that for playing high-level baseball. So, maybe the question is should he have given more than the car? I guess you accept what you get. But, how much does that number mean to you is what I'd be asking!
