A Virginia man was arrested for drawing his own crosswalk on a busy street. I guess you can't do that!

Is it jay walking if you create your own crosswalk? I have never heard of a case quite like this one. He made his own crosswalk with spray chalk and he's hoping that the city puts something permanent there to slow drivers down. Until then, it sounds like he was trying to make his own. I guess I didn't now you can't use chalk on the street like that. You learn something new every day. CBS19 News reports that Kevin Cox is now facing up to a year in jail after being arrested on a property damage charge after he tried to make a man-made crosswalk at the intersection of Elliott Ave and 2nd St.

Cox tells CBS19, "If we can't get traffic control cameras, and police won't enforce the law enough to communicate with people, then we have to turn to physical methods to slow drivers down." Sounds like he took matters into his own hands after the city wouldn't act, in his opinion.

His work didn't last very long. CBS19 says the city quickly covered it and put out a warrant for his arrest. He's hoping all of this attention will lead to the city doing something about it and putting up a legitimate crosswalk in hopes of slowing drivers down on the busy street. It sounds like he has a lot of the support in the community who also see the road as dangerous and see the benefits of a crosswalk there. Will it happen? We'll have to wait and see!

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
