There was a hilarious closed captioning mistake during the NHL Draft. It was all on-camera and aired on TV!

There were a lot of cool moments during the 2025 NHL Draft. However, there were some strange moments as well. Unfortunately, the embarrassing moments seem to always go more viral than the touching and sentimental moments. That's just how the internet is, I guess. It's understandable. Much of the attention during the night and the discussion online was centered around the Boston Bruins.

'Thank You For Pegging Me': Hilarious Closed Captioning Mistake During NHL Draft

The Boston Bruins had the best of both worlds, you could say, during the NHL Draft. One one hand, it was awesome that they had Adam Sandler on as Happy Gilmore to announce the Bruins draft pick. Check out the incredible announcement below.

Very cool for James Hagens. It would be amazing to have Adam Sandler announce your selection. How many players can say that? Cool for the Boston kid to stay in Boston. I always love when that happens. However, it didn't take long for things to get awkward.

Hagens then appeared on TV to meet his new executives and the Boston Bruins brass. However, they appeared to have some technical difficulties as boomers can with Zoom. They were dead silent during the introduction. Clearly, it wasn't intentional and some kind of stare down but they weren't aware of what was happening. To try to break the tension, Hagens thanks them by saying, "Thank you for picking me." However, it sounded like he said something else. At least that's what closed captioning picked up on. It read that he said, "Thank you for pegging me!" Check out the video below.

To my surprise, this moment didn't go viral. For a long time, I appeared to be the only one who picked up on it so I had to share my own Tweet there. I apologize. Most people seemed to be too distracted by their silence and that's the part that went viral, which I can understand. However, in all that awkwardness they seemed to have missed the best part! The closed captioning actually said, "thank you for pegging me" and that's what aired! That's what everyone saw. Someone out there had to have been incredibly confused by what they were watching playout on TV. I don't think that happened. I think they selected him based on his skills on the ice.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
