Some people stumble into being named the Idiot Criminal Of The Day. Others spent much more effort into earning the title. This Colorado park ranger definitely fits the second one. According to 9 News, 26-year-old Callum Heskett is the Colorado park ranger accused of stabbing himself at Staunton State Park as part of what's been described as an "elaborate hoax." Law enforcement even discovered his Google searches that morning which included searches for, "how deep are arteries in lower abdomen" and "3.5 inch stab wound." Some criminals make it much easier for law enforcement to solve cases and you'd have to imagine having that in your Google search history is doing them quite the favor. Why would anyone want to put themselves through that? Ouch. 9 News reports that Heskett was arrested upon his release from getting his injuries treated on charges of attempt to influence a public servant, false reporting to authorities, and reckless endangerment.
Heskett had originally told authorities that he was driving and saw a man hunched over a tree and he went to check on him and the man said, "F--- the police!" and charged at him, per 9 News. He claimed that man ended up stabbing him which started a search for the suspect and several schools and buildings near by were put on lock down.
Officers ended up seeing some things that didn't add up and his story was eventually busted once he handed over his phone. Don't do this! Sounds like he might have thought he could get money out of the situation or something. Law enforcement is up to date on technology and know how to spot someone lying!
