Black Bear Bites Woman Inside New Jersey Dollar General

A woman was bitten by a black bear inside of a New Jersey Dollar General. This has to be the first time this has ever happened.

If you're walking in the woods, you might expect to run into a black bear. It happens, it's their home. So, you might take action to prepare yourself just in case you come face-to-face with one. However, you never expect to run into a black bear while walking the aisles of Dollar General. Unfortunately, that's what happened to this woman in Sussex County, New Jersey. CBS News reports that the 175-pound female black bear was seeing roaming the aisle of the Dollar General in Vernon Township that afternoon. Sean Clarkin, who recorded video on his phone, said he coaxed the bear to follow him outside and tells CBS News, "That was it. The bear made the turn, started heading towards us. There's people in the store. I would rather get the bear out of the store, have him follow me out." One woman was injured by the bear and taken to the hospital. CBS New York has the story below.

Witnesses tell CBS News that the bear appeared to be sick as it was acting erratically. They say it's been terrorizing the area along Route 94 for hours, per CBS News. They tried several times to get the bear to go off into the woods but it kept coming back and threatening people and pets. It even attacked a man's German Shepherd named Lucky. Luckily, Lucky wasn't badly hurt and survived but the bear did have to be put down.

The bear is now being tested for rabies and the results are expected to come in soon. They say if you run into a bear back away slowly and be loud and wave your arms to make yourself look big. Be on the look out the next time you're at the dollar store!
