The Louisiana teacher has been identified as 47-year-old Virginia Somers. She reportedly is a middle school teacher in Baton Rouge. Law and Crime reports she was arrested after a K-9 with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Drug Task Force detected something suspicious in her book bag. Law and Crime reports that Somers told the officer that the cocaine belonged to a friend but did admit to snorting some at an LSU tailgate party the previous weekend. She then consented to a search of her vehicle where officers allegedly found marijuana, pipes, and lighters.
Somers was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and violation of controlled dangerous substances in a school zone. The school system issues a statement saying, "[T]his behavior is not condoned by our district and we remain committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and drug-free environment for all students and staff," via Law and Crime.
