A Washington DC woman sued her neighbor to stop him from smoking weed in his own home. While it seems ridiculous--she was successful!

You never know what type of neighbors you might have. Maybe they'll be the type to bring you sweets and treats, maybe they'll never leave you alone, perhaps they'll be mysterious and you'll never see them, or they could be the type to sue you. You definitely don't want that. According to The New York Post, 76-year-old Josefa Ippolito-Shepherd said the smell coming from the home of her neighbor 73-year-old neighbor, Thomas Cackett, smelled like feces and skunk and made her dread coming home. She said the smell even made her throw up one time. So, she took action and sued him for it.

The New York Post says it took 5 years but she finally won her case. The judge reportedly determined that her use and enjoyment of her own property was more important than his use and enjoyment of marijuana. Cackett tried to say that he only smoked once a day for 5 minutes and does it to treat his ailments but the panel wasn't having it.

Now he can't smoke with 25 feet of her home and that includes on his own property! Sounds like it might be time to move. Marijuana is legal in DC but this could set a new precedent.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
