Brazilian Dad Dies After Dropping Barbell On Chest During Gym Accident

A gym accident led to a Brazilian dad passing away after he dropped a barbell on his chest. This is why it's always important to have a spotter that you trust!

This has long been a fear of mine. You don't want to drop a barbell on your chest. Anytime I see one I think of that happening because you see it in the movies, TV shows, and online fail videos all the time. I always thought it would happen to me. Thankfully, it never has (for me). But it became reality for this Brazilian dad, 55-year-old Ronald Montenegro. According to The New York Post, he was caught on CCTV lifting weights when the piece of gym equipment slipped out of his hands and crashed onto his chest. Other gym-goers rushed to his side to help but he collapsed seconds later.

Montenegro, who works as a museum manager, was rushed to the hospital but they couldn't do much to save him and he succumbed to his injuries, per The New York Post.

Sounds like it was a freak accident but it ended up killing him! This is what I have long been scared of. It's not just embarrassing to have happen in front of others--but it can kill you! Read more from The New York Post here.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
