You might have seen Punch the Monkey trending on social media. He's a baby macaque at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan that went viral for carrying around a stuff orangutan. We realized today that Cort is our version of Punch the Monkey. Watch and you'll understand!
According to USA Today, "Punch the monkey can't catch a break. Punch, a baby macaque at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan, went viral earlier in the week for dragging a stuffed orangutan around his enclosure. The baby monkey was abandoned by his mother at birth, the zoo's website says, and was raised by zoo staff. The stuffed animal was given to Punch to help him cope with loneliness. Social media users have poured an abundance of love on Punch the past few days, but a new video posted on Thursday, Feb. 19 has animal lovers in distress."
Well, IKEA released a stuffed animal version of punch and supposedly it was sold out. However, Cort was able to purchase one. And when we talked about him buying it, we realized that he is sort of like our version of Punch the Monkey. Constantly being shunned by his radio family and having to deal with being ejected from the studio by Dave.
It's a really good analogy and he even admits that he relates to Punch a lot. Now, before you go getting all upset, it's all jokes around this place. What kind of show would it be if we didn't give each other some crap once in a while! We all take some and we can all dish out the same!
