When it comes down to it, I'm sure we all have some dirty or nasty habits. Maybe they aren't as bad as some others but we all have things we do that might gross other people out. What you really hope is that your secret nasty habit doesn't come back to bite you and go viral online. That's what's now happening to one man in China! He reportedly had a habit of smelling dirty socks and that led to him developing a fungal lung infection!
Man Develops Fungal Lung Infection From Smelling Dirty Socks
According to Oddity Central, the man was admitted to the Southwest Hospital of the Army Medical University with a persistent cough. After some examining, doctors found suspicious shadows in his lower right lung and showed a fungal lung disease caused by an Aspergillus infection, per Oddity Central.
After questioning him, doctors learned that he had developed a habit of smelling his own dirty socks. Sounds like he would smell his socks every day when he came home from work before putting them into the wash. Doctors examined his dirty socks and found traces of Aspergillus and realized that's what was causing everything. I never knew that smelling dirty socks could lead to a serious problem like that. Yes, I knew it was gross but never realized how bad it really was. Oddity Central says that worn socks contain sweat, salt, urea, and the warm and humid environment inside the shoe promotes fungal growth.
Don't smell your dirty socks!
