Dutch University Offering Heavy Metal Music Degrees
A school in Eindhoven, Netherlands made history by allowing students to earn heavy metal music degrees through their three-year program called The Metal Factory.
This program teaches students everything from screaming vocals and guitar shredding to heavy bass, intense drumming, and atmospheric keyboard. Students learn from a 14-person faculty of industry veterans, including skilled bassist Robin Zielhorst from Cynic and Textures members Bart Hennephof and Stef Broks.
The Metal Factory notes of their instructors, “Our teachers are all active in the music industry, on stage and behind the scenes … Many of our teachers have toured the world and thus capable of sharing realistic experiences and knowledge with our students.
Along with music skills, students learn essential business knowledge. The program covers music production, business basics, and industry knowledge. Classes are taught in English to welcome international students.
Alumni are now successful in various music-related fields. Some continue their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, while others work in law, band management, or music therapy. The school’s goal is to create independent artists who can make a living through music.
Metal Factory will hold an open house at Dynamo Eindhoven on January 26. Potential students can check out the facilities and meet with experienced instructors.
