Gwyneth Paltrow attends Veuve Clicquot Celebrates 250th Anniversary with Solaire Exhibition on October 25, 2022 in Beverly Hills, California.

Gwyneth Paltrow is reflecting on how easy it was to get away with things back in the ’90s. On Monday’s appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actress-turned-wellness guru admitted there was a time when she wasn’t surrounded by such healthy influences.

Paltrow, 50, was on the show promoting her Audible series, The Goop Pursuit, joined by Hilary Swank. Host Corden asked the two stars, “You both came up in the nineties, which is having quite the renaissance at the moment — the fashion, the music —  what was it like for both of you being so famous at a time when there was no social media, no nothing. What do you remember about that time?” Before giving their answer, Swank, 48 and pregnant, pointed out that Paltrow won an Oscar in 1999 for her role in Shakespeare in Love and the following year, she won for her role in Boys Don’t Cry. Swank added, “You were really famous in the ’90s — I wasn’t.”

The Royal Tenenbaums actress then answered with a laugh, “It was great — I mean, talk about doing cocaine and not getting caught! Like, you could just be at a bar and be, like, having fun, dance on a table, you could — no camera phones — especially in New York, interestingly enough, there were no paparazzi. You could stumble out of a bar and go home with some rando and no one would know.”
