Flight Canceled After Passenger Notices Missing Bolts On Plane’s Wing

Personally, whenever I get on a plane I immediately start looking for problems. Maybe I can point something out that ends up saving the day. Well, it’s never happened. At least to me. A flight was canceled after a passenger noticed missing bolts on the plane’s wing!
Good thing he was looking! That observation likely saved lives! Here’s the story.
Flight Canceled After Passenger Notices Missing Bolts On Plane’s Wing
The New York-bound Virgin Atlantic flight was called off just before take off thanks to Phil Hardy’s observation. According to The New York Post, Hardy noticed four missing fasteners during a safety briefing for passengers and alerted the cabin crew.
Holy cow! I don’t think I would have been able to notice that. For me, I could have noticed if the wing was like missing, or something. However, screws or bolts are something I likely would have missed during my little inspections.
Per The New York Post, Hardy told the Kennedy News agency, “I’m a good flyer, but my partner was not loving the information I was telling her and starting to panic, and I was trying to put her mind at rest as much as I could. I thought it was best to mention it to a flight attendant to be on the safe side.”
Good thing he did! Noticing a problem with the plane and not mentioning it to anyone doesn’t seem like the right decision. I’d rather bring it up and be told “oh no that’s totally normal” than keep it to myself.
Before long, crews were on the scene addressing the issue. The flight ended up being canceled to “provide time for precautionary additional engineering maintenance checks,” per The New York Post. That gave their team the most possible time to complete and execute their inspections.
According to The New York Post, passengers were rebooked onto alternate flights into New York City.
