‘Gatorwine’ Is The Trending Recipe For The End Of Summer
Gatorwine is the new viral recipe for the end of summer. Have you ever thought about combining Gatorade and Red wine?
It’s the collaboration you never saw coming–much like Sour Patch Kids and Oreos. Gatorwine is now taking over TikTok and social media and you can’t help but wonder, are they onto something? Could this end up being good? It’s started quite the debate online.
What Is Gatorwine?
I like wine. I also like Gatorade. However, together? That’s a unique beverage I’ve never really thought about. I’ve always thought Gatorade made a poor chaser for alcohol because of how watery it is compared to the fizziness of a carbonated soda. So, mixing it with wine has never crossed my mind. At least until recently.
According to Today, Gatorwine is equal parts cheap red wine (they say it should be under $12 a bottle) and Glacier Freeze Gatorade. They say the berry and citrus notes of the Gatorade flavor combine nicely with the berry and fruity notes of the red wine. I’m not sure why it has to be cheap red wine, why not your favorite bottle? That makes me a bit suspicious.
Now, the recipe and drink are all over social media but it’s believed to have been started by “GoatsNowhere” on YouTube, per Today. Andrew Rea, aka Binging with Babish, then really brought it to light with his video on YouTube and reaction to the allegedly popular drink. In the video, Rea says, “It’s not like anything I’ve ever tasted, ever. If I’m being honest, I’d rather drink this than Barefoot or Yellowtail.” Okay, I’m paying attention! It’s basically like a Gen-Z sangria. It looks like he gave the drink a score of 7 which doesn’t sound bad!
It’s really taken off since his video leading to many people trying it and giving their reactions online. Comments on the video are funny to read. Opinions are definitely mixed here. Some people say they didn’t like it at first, but after coming back and trying it again they’re fans. Maybe it takes an acquired pallet just like wine! Check out the viral video below.
