Police Surprised To Find Alligator Left In Michigan Motel
You never expect to find an alligator in a Michigan motel. In Florida it might not be a surprise, but in Michigan it certainly would be.
Law enforcement officers were given quite the surprise when they got the call, and understandably so! The viral incident happened in Cheboygan, Michigan which is much further north than you’re supposed to find alligators. It sounds like a man staying at the local motel left without his pet alligator and now Cheboygan Police are investigating what happened at this Pine River Motel. Up North Live reports that a man was contracted to travel to different schools with exotic animals and had engagements last week at East Elementary and Bishop Baraga. Lt. Ron White of the Cheboygan Police Department tells Up North Live, “I’ve been here 31 years, and I’ve never had a call quite like this.”

Employees at the Pine River Motel found the alligator while cleaning a rom. Lt. White tells Up North Live, “When I initially got the call, I was a little skeptical but went to the call anyway. I showed up and spoke with the owner of the hotel. I got ahold of Animal Control and notified them. They came back up, and then through our investigation, we were able to determine that the gentleman who owned the alligator was down in Detroit at this time.” Officers waited hours for the man to come back and he eventually did.
Turns out, the gator’s name is Wally just like the old cartoon. The man assured them that he was friendly and has owned the gator for the last 10 or 11 years–and even let the officers hold him. Police are still investigating and could not say if this will result in any charges.
