They say that the only constant is change, but when it comes to flirting, some of the tried-and-true tactics still work. There's a new study out that delves into the flirting tactic that will make you more appealing, no matter what you look like. Who needs beer goggles when you have flirting goggles?

Flirting 101: Don't Do These Things

Before we get into the flirting tactic that will make you more appealing, let's talk about what to avoid doing while flirting. Thecut.com talked to a flirting expert, in the form of an actual bartender, about what to avoid doing when you're trying to flirt. For one, they say, "Don't give your life story." I've seen this a few times at the bar, including when I worked at a sports bar during college. Two people might strike up a conversation and have some cute talk, and then the next thing you know, one of them is pouring out their every hope, dream, hardship and failure like it's a full-fledged therapy session. That's not the best way to go about flirting. Not that there's anything wrong with opening up to a love interest. But, if you're going for fun flirting, don't tell all. They also say to not go overboard with the touching and that light touching is best. For example, lightly put your hand on the other person's knee. Only do this if you know the advances are welcomed by your love interest, of course. Otherwise, you could find yourself in some trouble.

The Flirting Tactic That Will Make You More Attractive

A new study published in Evolutionary Psychology discovered that humor is the most effective flirting tactic for both men and women. "People think that humor, or being able to make another person laugh, is most effective for men who are looking for a long-term relationship," says Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair, a professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology's (NTNU) Department of Psychology. Edward adds that laughing at the other person's jokes works for both sexes, too. However, it takes on more importance for a woman flirting with a man. "It is not only effective to be funny, but for women, it is very important that you show your potential partner that you think they are funny," said Rebecca Burch, a co-author from SUNY Oswego in New York. So, the next time you are in the mood to flirt it up with that special someone, try old-fashioned giggling.
