A Listener Needs Advice After His Son Saw Him Finish
Ask Dave and Chuck the Freak is always full of surprises. We never know what a listener is going to need help with and today was no different. We weren’t ready for what this listener put in front of us and if you haven’t seen ‘There Will Be Blood’, you should so you can fully get the references. How would you react if your son saw you finish?
Dave opened up Ask Dave and Chuck the Freak with an e-mail from an anonymous listener. This listener said he had the house to himself the other day and wanted to “handle some business”. His wife was out of town, his son had gone out for the night, and he thought he was all alone. Well, after getting after it, his son barged into his room and saw everything. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. The anonymous listener said they haven’t spoken in days since the encounter and wants to know how he should proceed going forward.
We think he should never speak of it again. He wonders if he should tell his wife, if she should talk to his son, or just pretend like nothing ever happened. We suggest the latter. As embarrassed as he is, his son is equally embarrassed. And, potentially scarred for life. Seeing the “finish of your father”, as Chuck puts it.
Later on, Chuck says that if you are going to talk to him eventually, you need to be like Daniel Day Lewis in ‘There Will Be Blood’. Because essentially, you have lost your son. Chuck delivers a great impression of Daniel Planview from that movie that still has me laughing as I write this.
