While it’s understandable that it might sound like a good idea to get tattoos under anesthesia (you’d be unconscious and wouldn’t feel any of the pain) but there are some downsides to this trend that you should be aware of before trying it. Medical experts are warning against the trend as at least one man has died doing it. Going under anesthesia is common for surgery and other medical procedures and now more people are looking to have tattoos under anesthesia. It can stop you from feeling the pain or from moving and ruining a line or something like that during your session.
Is It Dangerous To Get Tattoos Under Anesthesia?
Dak Prescott, the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys was sedated for 11 hours to get his leg tattoo back in 2023, per The New York Post. Other celebrities have also joined in on the trend. However, medical professionals are warning against it. Dr. Tiffany Moon has warned against it citing that the tattoo parlor might use the wrong equipment or not put you out properly, and that would be important. She says it’s not safe the way it’s often being handled. However, if it’s done correctly it shouldn’t pose a problem.
The New York Post shared a story of a Brazilian influencer, Ricardo Godoi, who went into cardiac arrest and died during a procedure to ink his entire back. That is not what you want to have happen!
