Hawaii Baseball Player Almost Has Head Taken Off Stealing Home
A Hawaii baseball player nearly decapitated his teammate who was stealing home. He missed his head by only inches!
Had he been the slightest bit quicker, this runner would have been smacked in the hard with full force by a metal baseball bat. That speed could have taken his head off or more likely left him with some serious damage. It would have been a very bad thing to happen–and it almost did. His face was way too close to that baseball bat. It happened in a college baseball game between Hawaii and UC Davis when Hawaii was at the plate. Outfielder Jared Quandt almost got his bell rung by his teammate’s swing. Check out the viral video shared by Hawaii Baseball on X (formerly Twitter) below.
Baseball Player Nearly Decapitates Teammate Stealing Home
While it was a very close call and he narrowly avoided being hit by the swing, it was also incredible baserunning by Quandt. He scored a run and Hawaii won the game in extra innings. Although it was a foul ball, the run counted because the home base umpire called a balk on the pitcher allowing the runners to advance. The run counts. It was great hustle and apparently well worth the risk!
People in the comments also seem to have noticed the balk and credit the runner for heads-up baserunning. Baseball isn’t known for being a violent sport but that doesn’t mean dangerous things can’t happen. We almost saw that happen here and it would have been a very ugly scene had it happened. Thankfully, it didn’t.
