Plane Lands on Frozen River by Mistake
Pretty safe to say that if you’ve flown before, you’ve had a sketchy landing on a runway. Maybe the plane took a little longer to stop than you’d like. Or, that feeling in your stomach when the plane suddenly drops much faster than you expected. Well, how about when the plane lands on a frozen river by mistake? Because that’s what just happened in Russia.

When thinking of cold places on Earth, Siberia in the winter is an easy answer. Notoriously below freezing temperatures and snow are a constant in the Russian region. Well, according to DailyMail.co.uk, a passenger plane carrying 30 people made a serious error while landing in Siberia by mistaking a frozen river for the runway. The temperatures at the time of landing were -41 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, you read that right. -41 degrees Fahrenheit. The four crew members and all 30 passengers were uninjured according to reports from DailyMail.co.uk and the plane was eventually removed from the cracking ice.
How Cold is Siberia?
The Russian region of Siberia is one of the coldest on Earth. According to ClimatesToTravel.com, the average winter temperature is around -30 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer months it can get up to a balmy high of freezing or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Right around 32 degrees. It does depend whether you are more inland, and East or West, but the winters are brutally cold.
