Is Wearing Sweatpants On A Plane Socially Acceptable?
Is wearing sweatpants on a plane socially acceptable? A recent viral video is saying that you shouldn’t wear sweatpants on a plane and it’s not acceptable!
Do you agree? What behaviors are considered socially acceptable can vary from person-to-person. However, I have never heard about not wearing sweatpants on a plane. Not wearing shorts? I could understand that. What do you think? Let’s dive into the recent viral video.
Is Wearing Sweatpants On A Plane Socially Acceptable?
Do you think wearing sweatpants on a plane is socially acceptable? I have no problem with it. However, Family Guy writer Gary Janetti is going viral online for claiming it’s not socially acceptable. Does he have a point or is he just being an observational comedian online?
I remember the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry David criticizes the person sitting next to him for wearing shorts on the plane. The shorts are seen riding up the man’s leg exposing a large amount of skin, which Larry notices and comments on. Personally, I get it. Showing too much skin on a flight probably isn’t socially acceptable itself. The person next to you could touch or leg, or something! That’s something neither of you want. However, what about sweatpants?
According to the We Are Experiencing A Slight Delay author, Janetti thinks people wearing sweatpants look like they have the flu. Here we go again with this. How many times on Seinfeld did George Costanza get accused of “giving up” or something like that because of his preference for sweatpants? The stereotype is played out! As Chuck The Freak would say, it’s Soft Life! It’s a great way to live.
According to People, when asked about wearing sweatpants on a flight, Janetti responded, “It looks like, at the airport, too many people are on day five of the flu. Like they’ve been in bed for a week. How comfortable do you have to be to get on a three-hour flight? I mean, I don’t know.” He goes on to argue that you can easily wear something with buttons and still be comfortable. Does he have a point? Sure. You want to always look your best and you rarely see that at airports. However, don’t you have much more to worry about when you’re at the airport? You have delays, crying children, and more–I can’t blame anyone for at least being comfortable during all of that.
