Alleged Drunk Driver Refers To Himself As ‘The DUI’ Instead Of The ‘DD’
A drunk driver had a bit of a Freudian slip when he referred to himself as the “DUI” instead of saying “the DD.” There’s a big difference!
However, what he said ended up becoming true. He was both the DD and the DUI after he was arrested for DUI. That is not how you want your DD (designated driver) to be acting. It’s implied that your DD is sober and capable of legally driving you home or around and it sounds like this one was not. You had one job! The incident happened in Southern California on New Year’s Eve. That’s one of the worst nights for drunk drivers of the year and always a night where I hate being on the roads. This is the perfect example of why!
How Did A Drunk Driver Give Himself Away?
Video obtained by Law & Crime show the man during a traffic stop in Riverside County telling the officer, “I was just dropping off my friend because I’m the DUI tonight.” The officer then asks if he’s sure that he’s the “DUI” and the man confirmed. That’s when the officer asked if he meant “DD?” Clearly, the driver was already thinking about that DUI and it was on his mind and ended up being spoken without him realizing it. Crazy how that can happen sometimes. According to Law & Crime, the man went on to admit that he had some champagne earlier in the night and he’s then seen on video struggling with his road-side sobriety test.
To make things even worse for him, he’s now being used as an example of what not to do. You never want to be used as the example. Law & Crime says the Murrieta Police Department used the video to promote public safety for the holiday. That would be embarrassing, so if you’re supposed to be the DD on New Year’s Eve make sure you’re not drinking otherwise you might end up becoming the DUI instead of the DD.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tells Law & Crime, “Driving after drinking is deadly. Yet it still continues to happen across the United States. If you drive while impaired, you could get arrested, or worse–be involved in a traffic crash that causes serious injury or death.” Don’t drink and drive! Let this be your reminder! You don’t want to end up becoming the face of what not to do on New Year’s Eve like this guy now is. If you’re the DD then don’t drink. If you notice your DD has been drinking, call a ride share service so you can get home safely!
