They say it’s the most wonderful time of the year. That means you’re likely to find yourself in the holiday spirit at some point over the holidays. Maybe it’s one too many eggnogs or maybe it’s just the joy and magic of the season. However, be careful. Christmas sex can be dangerous for men.
According to The New York Post, men are being cautioned against energetic Christmas action due to the chances of suffering a painful penile fracture.
Why Christmas Sex Can Be Dangerous For Men
The New York Post reports the chances of having a penile fracture “dramatically” increases during the week of Christmas.
A recent study looked at 3,421 German men between 2005 and 2021 and found that the chances of sustaining the groin injury rose significantly between December 24th and December 26th, according to The New York Post.
Authors of the study which was published in the British Journal Of Urology International said, “If every day was like Christmas, 43% more penile fractures would have occurred in Germany from 2005 on.”
Can’t fight the urge? The data suggests waiting until New Year’s Eve for your energetic lovemaking because there’s a significant reduction in cases on that day, according to The New York Post.
In The New York Post, Dr. Nikolaos Pyrgides, a urologist at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich says penile fractures usually occur during “wild sex.”
Per The New York Post, he went on to say the risk of injury is even greater in “positions where you’re not in direct eye contact [with your partner], such as the reverse cowgirl.”
Now, it is worth mentioning this study was involving men in Germany. They have a different culture than we do. According to The New York Post, Germans celebrate Christmas more enthusiastically than we do here in the States. It’s more like how we celebrate New Year’s Eve here. If that helps put it in perspective.
So, what happens if it happens to you? What can you expect? According to The New York Post, a hospital stay and surgery is required in about 25% of cases. The study also found the average age of the injury was 42. The New York Post points out it costs about $2,600 to treat the injury on average. So, best be careful this holiday season!
'Die Hard' And 5 Other Debatable Christmas Movies
‘Tis the season for Christmas movies, but what makes a Christmas movie a “Christmas movie?” Does it have to take place on Christmas? Must Christmas be the primary theme? Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
It’s a question that seems to be as old as the holiday itself. Everyone has an opinion, and we could be closer to an answer than ever before.
In determining what makes a Christmas movie a “Christmas movie,” Yahoo! UK came up with a two-question litmus test. To try to determine if a movie is indeed a Christmas movie, they say you have to first ask “does watching the film at any other time of year feel weird? If no, then it’s not a Christmas movie.”
Then, they suggest you ask, “if you take Christmas out of the movie, does it still make sense? If yes, then it’s not a Christmas movie.”
Die Hard & Other Debatable Christmas Movies
I think those are fair criteria. It’s not a Christmas movie if you can watch it during the summer and have no issue. If it has the same feel in August as it does on Christmas, it shouldn’t be a Christmas movie.
Likewise, I feel like Christmas has to be the primary theme of the movie. If you can remove Christmas from the plot and it still makes sense it shouldn’t be considered a Christmas movie.
So, given these characteristics I feel like Die Hard would not be considered a Christmas movie. Despite the movie taking place on Christmas, you can watch the movie all year long. It doesn’t have to be exclusively tied to Christmas. To me, it doesn’t pass the litmus test.
In a new poll, 26% of people said that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. 50% of people surveyed said it is not. Then, 23% say they “aren’t sure.”
Die Hard isn’t the only movie that we question if it’s a Christmas movie or not. Some of the best movies of all-time could fall into this vague area. Here are five other movies that are debatable Christmas movies, just like Die Hard.
