Balcony Bending At Fox Theatre Reportedly ‘Nothing To Worry About’
A video is going viral online showing the balcony bending at the Fox Theatre in Detroit! The crowd at the Gunna concert got very excited–so much so that the balcony in the venue was seen bending. Now, the venue’s owners are saying that it’s nothing to worry about.
It’s a pretty scary sight! It definitely looks like it could come down like London Bridge at any minute. Here’s more on the story below.
Balcony Bends At The Fox Theatre
According to FOX 2 Detroit, the bouncing of the second-story balcony is common and expected. The structure should bend to allow concert goers to actively dance. A statement from Ilitch Sports + Entertainment via FOX 2 said, “This capability is an integral part of the balcony’s structural engineering design.” They even had it inspected as recently as April, per reports.
In the trending video, you see the crowd rocking along with the rapper and the balcony bending like a mattress on a bed. If there were any more people or if they were going any harder it looks like the thing could come crashing down. However, that doesn’t appear to be a concern. I’ll trust the inspectors and the engineers on this one. Clearly, they know more than I do when it comes to stuff like this. That wouldn’t stop me from freaking out if I was up there, though! Looking through the video it seems like most people are having fun up there. I don’t see anybody bracing for a fall, but I’ll keep looking.
The Fox Theatre is one of the most beautiful venues in Detroit. It looks like it’ll be around for years to come with its balcony in tact. Next time you’re there make sure to check out the bending balcony! Check out the viral video shared on Instagram by @detroitrapdaily below!
