Was A Canadian Zamboni Driver Arrested For Clearing The Ice While Under The Influence?
Was a Canadian Zamboni driver arrested for clearing the ice while under the influence? That’s what it sounds like, eh!
If you’ve ever watched a hockey game in-person then you should be familiar with the Zamboni. It’s the big vehicle that cleans the ice between periods or after games. While I’ve never driven one, I can imagine they could be difficult to maneuver. Especially if you’re under the influence. That seems to be what happened in this story out of Western Quebec.
Canadian Zamboni Driver Arrested For Resurfacing While Under The Influence
According to Global News, police say the 25-year-old man was arrested after he drove the ice-resurfacing machine into the bords at a hockey rink in Chelsea, Quebec while cleaning the ice between 2 games. The incident was captured on videos from the stands it look like. In the video, you can see a referee skating alongside the machine as it heads straight into the boards with a loud crash.
It sounds like people in the stand could tell that the driver was impaired and called the police after seeing the signs of impairment. He was reportedly given a sobriety test and then arrested but was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. Really taking him for his word on that one. Thankfully, nobody was injured in the crash but the door onto the ice rink was damaged, per Global News. You can watch the viral video for yourself below. That would definitely be crazy to see while standing in the rafters.
We’ve talked about people who have gotten DUIs on interesting vehicles before but I don’t think we’ve ever had one on a Zamboni. There have been lawn mowers and even an excavator. Not a smart decision to get behind the wheel of a Zamboni while impaired. You shouldn’t drive anything while under the influence, let along a massive Zamboni. One commenter on the video said, “to be fair the road conditions were very icy.” The internet can’t let any event go by without some comments. Another comment said, “DUI–Driving Under the Ice.”
Don’t be like this guy! Don’t get behind the wheel of a Zamboni if you’ve been drinking. It likely won’t end well. Have you ever seen anything like that? Zambonis are big and heavy and can’t be the easiest to drive when you’re sober. You have to imagine being drunk and trying to drive one would be very hard.
